Aloe Vera Side Effects

Aloe Vera Side Effects - I have written quite a lot on this site about all the good uses to which aloe vera can be put, however, as with most things in life, it's side effects, I feel, need to be recorded in order to ensure that both care and balance are preserved.

Many times throughout this site I have stated that I use a specially prepared aloe vera concentrate which I mix in cold water and drink as and when I choose.

However, I took great care in choosing this preparation and I follow the directions for use of the product to the letter, as I have always been aware that the side effects can be quite unpleasant and overdosing on it, potentially dangerous.

Aloe vera side effects - are a possibility and for this reason I have included a list of some of the side effects that have been documented for the purposes of ensuring that care is taken in selecting and using aloe vera products.

Dehydration can result from overdosing on aloe vera, so follow the dosage indicated on any product you may purchase for use.

Intestinal spasms or stomach cramps - again these can result from overdosing on the product, so ensure you use products according to the manufacturers instruction.

Severe diarreahea or kidney problems can also arise as a result of overdosing.

If you are taking steroids or diuretics you should not take aloe vera internally.

If you are taking prescribed medication, you should check with your doctor before using aloe vera or anyother herbs for that matter. Mixing prescribed drugs with herbal remedies is unwise as the combination may result in worsening whatever condition or ailment you may be trying to cure.

Further aloe vera side effects can include muscle weakness and irregular heart beats due to a lowering of potassium in the blood. Anyone suffering from heart or kidney problems should not use aloe vera internally.

If you are pregnant or nursing your baby, aloe vera should definitely not be taken orally. Aloe vera may cause spontaneous abortion in pregnant women.

Do not give aloe vera to children.

Finally, if you are allergic to aloe or other plants from the same family like tuplips, garlic or onions, you should stay away from using aloe vera on your skin or hair.

This list of aloe vera side effects is not exhaustive, however, remember that aloe vera products can be used and are used daily by thousands of people who benefit healthwise from its use. Just be sure that you use a good quality product and follow the directions for use as laid down by the manufacturer.
