Edamame Beans - A Bean Above!

Edamame beans! What are they? I last wrote about the benefits of using soya along with aloe vera and I have some more great news for anyone out there who is concenred and is trying to keep their weight under control. Beans are the answer but not just any old beans, these are young soya beans. The Japanese who have used them for centuries as part of their staple diet, call these young soya beans Edamame ( pronounced ed-ah-ma-may).

These little beans are packed with health boosting nutrients and are even believed to contain healing and curative properties especially helpful in the battle against heart disease, various cancers and of less terminally dangerous health issues including the menopause. Recent reserarch has indicated that consuming soya regularly can reduce the risk of stomach cancer, prostate cancer and colon cancer.

Not only do these beans contain high vegetable protein which is much better for good health than is animal protein, but they also contain iron and fibre as well as the highly rated Omega 3 healthy fats. Everyone knows nowadays that Omega 3s, promote good health for your heart and circulatory system.

The little green soya bean, which is harvested while still young, like all soya beans originated in China They are a major source of nutrition, due to their high protein content, and have been recorded as being used from as early as 200BC in Eastern Asia.

Edamame Beans compliment Aloe Vera use.

The combination of aloe vera and Edamame as constants in a daily diet, cannot fail but improve and promote good health and general well being. Soya has long been known for its health promoting properties however, apart from vegetarians who use soya products regularly, many people do not consume much soya and are therefore missing out on all of the health benefits to be gained via this source of food. This is where the edamame bean may help to change things as it is easy to cook and can be taken as one of your 5 daily portions of fruit and vegetables that are recommended.

Soya Shakes to protect your health and assist with your weightloss

If you want to eat these beans like a real sophisticate, here is how you should do it. You take the cooked unshelled bean pod between your index finger and thumb, then place one end of the pod between your teeth, give the pod a gentle squeeze and suck out the beans at the same time. There now you know how to eat your unshelled edamame beans.

You can of course buy edamame beans already shelled and cook them, they only need to be simmered for five minutes, drained and tossed in some butter and freshly ground black pepper and serve.

Of course there are other ways of incorporating edamame beans into your daily routine such as putting them into your scrambled eggs and I have included a recipe below for anyone who would like to try them this way.

All in all, whether you drink your soya or prefer to eat the young soya beans, better known by their Japanese name, Endamame, you really will be doing something very positive for your health and as we all know, if you have good health, you have a great head start in life in general. Still don't forget the best combination, aloe vera and edamame beans, as both of these plants help to boost the immune system thereby protecting our bodies.

Here is the scrambled eggs and edamame recipe, I referred to above, which I have used myself and it is really delicious.

Healthy Edamame Scramble - 1 large egg - 2 egg whites - 1 Tablespoon of Milk (semi-skimmed or skimmed)- 1 1/2 cups of spinach leaves - 1 Teaspoon olive oil - 1/3 cup of shelled edamame beans - 1/8 chopped red pepper - 1/8 cup finely chopped onion - 1 Teaspoon minced garlic - 1/3 cup of shredded grated cheese of choice - 1 Tomato (medium sized)- 2 Teaspoons of basil or parsley. -

Method - Whisk eggs with egg whites and milk until smooth. Leave to stand and:

Pour the olive oil into a saucepan (preferably non-stick) heat over medium to high heat. When hot add the spinach leaves, edamame, pepper, onion, garlic and saute. Then pour in egg mixture and reduce the heat to medium. Stir and cook until eggs are done. Remove from heat sprinkle cheese over top, lay tomato on top of the cheese, cover and leave for a few minutes to allow cheese to melt. Then consume.
