Experience The Benefits-of-Meditation
Historically, meditation is linked to the mystics, monks and people of many spiritual persuasions. However, meditation is beneficial to anyone who practices it regularly and there
is no requirement for you to become a monk or a mystic in order to take it up as a means of rest and relaxation. The beauty of this art is that you need not go any further than the boundaries of your own front room or bedroom in order to meditate.
Despite there being a variety of different methods and approaches to meditation, the basic tenets are constant. The most important aspect of any form of meditation is to consciously remove all negative and obstructive thoughts from ones mind and ensure that your mind becomes calm and focused. You must prepare your mind for a higher level of activity and therefore clearing away all the debris it has collected is fundamental to the success of your meditation.
It will take some self-discipline as well to ensure that you do not start day dreaming rather than meditating.

To enable yourself to learn to experience the benefits of meditation you may find it helpful to shut out all noise as it can be distracting when you are trying to achieve a deep and profound state of mind. Initially this may prove difficult as most of us are so used to constant background noises, like the TV or passing traffic that complete silence can become a bit overwhelming. However, do not be put off, persevere and you will achieve your goal. Like everything else we do, learning the art of meditation takes practice but once you learn how to do it, you will enjoy the benefits it can bring.
Initially, you may also be a bit fazed at some of the positions used for meditating but again it is not necessary to put your body into some of the more uncomfortable and painful contortions in order to practice this routine, the important thing is to ensure that you are in a comfortable and relaxing situation where you can concentrate and focus your mind however not so relaxed that you fall asleep. You should also ensure that your clothes are comfortable and loose fitting as once again, feelings of restriction will have a negative effect on your ability to focus your mind which will result in your inabilty to achieve the benefits of meditation.
You will also no doubt have seen or heard of the chanting that many of the monks and mystics use during their meditation, you do not actually need to follow this but what you can do is to focus on a repeated action such as your breathing and maybe a low humming which will help you to enter into a higher state of consciousness. For example a simple routine you could use to begin with would be to silently name each and every part of your body and focus one each part as you name it while visualizing all tensions being released from each individual part as you come to it.
You will find that if you follow a simple routine regularly you will soon become proficient in the art and begin to experience the positive effects it can provide to your general well being.
These are just a few tips on meditation however there is a wealth of information to be found on the subject so if you want to learn more about it then I would recommend purchasing a book or CD and studying the art further.
